Whitehaven Rambling Club

... walking and hiking in England's Lake District

Walks

Regular fortnightly rambles are organised throughout the year on a Sunday. These are normally from 4 to 6 hours duration. Each walk has a designated Leader who can be contacted for further information. We cater for a wide range of walking abilities in three separate groups A, B and C

'A'  for the more experienced walker which are likely to be of the longest distance and often involve higher climbs.
'B'  for the average walker, usually shorter than the 'A' walk and where climbs may not be as difficult.
'C'  where easier, shorter, flatter routes are offered.

Normally walks are circular and the start is reached by car. The start time for these “Car Rambles” is normally 9:30am at the designated start point.
In summer the Club organises “Auto Rambles”. These run on six occasions during the summer months, where a coach is used making linear routes possible and to try out walks further afield. The coach picks up walkers at pre-arranged points, dropping each group off at their respective start point and collecting the three groups after their walks for the return journey. The coach pick-up time for Auto Rambles varies dependent on pick up point but is around 8:15am from Whitehaven. There is a charge for each auto ramble.

Short walks on a Wednesday Evening are held in the longer daylight months which are usually in more local and accessible areas. These are free to join and normally commence at 6:00pm from the starting point. These walks usually last about two hours and are not too strenuous though can involve some hill climbing.

Talks

During the winter months a programme of talks and social evenings are held on Wednesday evenings from October through to March. The venue is the United Reformed Church Hall situated at the Irish Street end of the Whitehaven Market Place. Starting at 7.45pm. Entry is £2 which includes refreshments.

Holidays

The club organises two or three holidays a year for 4 to 7 days, usually staying at hotels or holiday centres up and down the country and occasionally abroad. For the holiday there is normally a schedule of walks and activities and/or visits arranged to suit all tastes and abilities.
